If you are a completely new musician interested in learning an instrument, reach out to us and we can recommend some ways to get started.  Our bands have many members involved in music education who would love to help you find the joy in music.

The Southern Area Wind Band is open to new players able to read and play sheet music at a developing level;  around twelve months playing experience.​  We welcome everyone from young members starting their musical journeys to not-so-young members who might be looking at returning to playing regularly.

The Southern Area Concert Band is a non-auditioning community ensemble that plays a wide range of wind band repertoire.  Membership is open more to experienced musicians who play at AMEB grade 4 level or above.

The Southern Stars Stage Band plays big-band jazz music in a variety of settings.  Players are expected to be proficient on their instrument and have good reading skills.

We strive to accept all interested players, but ultimately membership is approved by the Musical Directors of the bands ensuring they maintain a balanced ensemble.

We encourage new players to contact us below.  We will get back to you with information and arrange for you to attend a rehearsal or two.  If you then wish to join us on an ongoing basis, there is an easy registration process and annual membership fee.
